Update - December 2022.

In June 2021, the Madras High Court in India ruled that medical institutions must amend the inaccuracies in medical textbooks relating to sexual and gender minorities.

In October 2021, after almost 20 years of lobbying from activists and medical ethics advocates, the National Medical Commission instructed colleges to update textbooks and curriculum along these lines.

No state or college in the country has since begun this process.

In 2022, newly released publications from the National Medical Commission itself, have not been updated, in contradiction to its own directive, from 2021.
